Billie Joe “Bill” DeWitt, 76, of Carmi, IL passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, March 2, 2025. Bill was born on April 19, 1948, in Springerton, IL, and was the son of J.C. and Lucille DeWitt. He was raised on the family farm in Springerton with his brothers and sisters, where he learned to love and work the land. He graduated from Enfield High School, class of 1966. Playing basketball on the Enfield Trojans team was a highlight of his high school career. His love of sports continued throughout his life, and watching basketball games on TV was a favorite pastime of his. Most recently, he attended a Kentucky Wildcats basketball game and enjoyed NASCAR races. In addition to his life’s work of farming, Bill was a master builder and craftsman. He designed and built his family’s first home in Springerton, and later, homes in Carmi for him and his wife and for his daughter and her family.
